# Remove Roles from Users

You can remove the [roles](/docs/manage-users/access-control/rbac) assigned to a user using the <Tooltip tip="Auth0 Dashboard: Auth0's main product to configure your services." cta="View Glossary" href="/docs/glossary?term=Auth0+Dashboard">Auth0 Dashboard</Tooltip> or the <Tooltip tip="Auth0 Dashboard: Auth0's main product to configure your services." cta="View Glossary" href="/docs/glossary?term=Management+API">Management API</Tooltip>. The assigned roles are used with the API Authorization Core feature set.

## Prerequisites

For role-based access control (RBAC) to work properly, you must enable it for your API using either the Dashboard or the Management API. The Authorization Core functionality is different from the Authorization Extension. ## Dashboard

1. Go to [Dashboard > User Management > Users](https://manage.auth0.com/#/users) and click the name of the user to view.
2. Click the **Roles** view, then click the trashcan icon next to the role you want to remove.

## Management API

Make a `DELETE` call to the [Delete User Roles endpoint](https://auth0.com/docs/api/management/v2#!/Users/delete_user_roles). Be sure to replace `USER_ID`, `MGMT_API_ACCESS_TOKEN`, and `ROLE_ID` placeholder values with your user ID, Management API <Tooltip tip="Access Token: Authorization credential, in the form of an opaque string or JWT, used to access an API." cta="View Glossary" href="/docs/glossary?term=access+token">access token</Tooltip>, and role ID(s), respectively.
